Bakke is back

Well, I never actually left. But it was too good of a play on words to resist. This month marks my third anniversary in LA! Since leaving Stockholm in 2019, I’ve been extremely lucky to have met some extraordinary people and built a team that I love working with and that keeps challenging me to take our imagery to the next level. All whilst having a great time! Besides finding this new professional family, I’ve also perfected my style and technicality. I’m still young in the business but I’m hungrier than ever and still very much love sharing my passion of photography – and exceeding my client’s expectations.

Bakke?!

I know it’s tricky and I don’t blame you. I’m sorry to say it’s not pronounced bake, bakie or baak. In Swedish we pronounce it as [bahk-eh] or similar. It actually means hill. I know, it’s even more complicated than IKEA…

Honestly, no worries if you don’t get it right. Oskar always works!

Photographer & Retoucher

Most people don’t know that I started retouching before I picked up my first camera. As I started taking photos, comping shots became a natural thing. And doing all of my own retouching meant that I knew exactly what exposures I needed, making me a more efficient photographer.

I’ve now managed to put together my own quick workflow in Photoshop. On set I’ll often do quick comps to make sure our ideas work out and that we get all the elements we need.

Today I outsource most of the commercial retouching. But being self-taught, I’m still involved from start to finish, including detail sketches and every round of feedback to the final image.

CASE STUDIES

Porsche MPG Marsien: Launch images

My friend Marc Gemballa asked me to shoot his new venture, the MPG Marsien, a rebuilt Porsche 911 Turbo, inspired by the legendary Porsche 959 rally car. During more than a week of shooting, we battled 120+ degree heat of the Al-Fayah desert outside Dubai. I did all the photography, drone-work and retouching.

Toyota bZ4x: Pre-launch

Saatchi requested me to shoot the Toyota's new EV bZ4x. They wanted a nice mix of nature and city scenery, but didn’t want it to be shot in Los Angeles. I started googling smaller cities around the US and realized how beautiful Oklahoma City is. Besides being a great city to shoot in they also had a futuristic designed botanical garden located in one of the most central parks. BINGO!

Details and interior were shot on a safe location outside LA and we “angle matched” those shots with the plates we gathered in OKC.

As it was a code-red project we shot a stand-in and shot HDRi domes. JB5 Production sorted location and sourced local talent. Creating the CG assets, I was as closely involved as Saatchi’s in-house CGI department to make sure we matched and improved the locations lighting. Post-production was done by my friends, the super talented Señor Studio out of Stockholm. Together with the CG assets, we blended reflection and shadows from the stand-in car to make it look as realistic as possible.

I always keep framing and cropping in mind so images can be used in both vertical and horizontal layouts.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS

Mercedes-Benz called me last minute to shoot their new concept. They organized the location and gave me full freedom. I brought in talent and we sorted styling with a mix of the talent’s and my wardrobe. It was all very quick and “guerilla” – but super fun.

Retouching was done together with Stockholm-based Retuscheriet.

MOTION

Motion

I’ve been pursuing more and more motion work over the last years. Usually I bring in a DP as I direct, but I’m also getting more confident behind the camera or flying a drone. Overall, I always want to ensure the still and motion bits get a cohesive feel and that we’re as efficient as possible on set.

Tusen tack!

Please let me know if you have any questions, thoughts or ideas. I’m always looking for new exciting projects and I’d love to work with you and your automotive clients. As you might have understood, I’m very hands-on across all of my work. As a result, I can ensure you smooth projects with stunning results. - Oskar
